There is currently the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) which is a certification granted by the European Union to products that are produced, processed, and prepared in a specific geographical area, using recognised know-how but while the PDO certification aims to ensure the authenticity and quality of products, there have been cases of fraud within the system.
